Saskatoon’s guns and gangs unit has charged a 25-year-old man with multiple firearms charges after a gun was discharged in the city on Jan. 26.
Saskatoon Police Service said in a news release that officers received the report of a gun being fired in the 100 block of 33rd Street West around 7 p.m. and a 25-year-old man was arrested without incident. A search of the residence found a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
The man is facing charges with discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a prohibited firearm, and several other gun related charges.
Guns, drugs seized from home
A number of firearms have been seized following an investigation by the guns and gangs unit of Saskatoon Police Service (SPS).
SPS said in a news release on Friday that a search warrant was executed at a home in the 100 block of Avenue K South on Jan. 26 after it received information that a 21-year-old man was in possession of a prohibited firearm, and was also believed to be selling illicit drugs.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday about a dozen people were evacuated from the home, SPD said, and a 42-year-old man who was attempting to hide was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Police located a sawed-off shotgun, two pellet guns, ammunition and cannabis believed to be for sale in the home.
Before the search, the 21-year-old man was arrested during a traffic stop in the 100 block of Avenue U South, and had bear spray and cannabis with him. He is facing four firearm-related offences as well as a charge of possession of cannabis for sale.
Police officer assaulted
A 28-year-old man is facing a number of charges after a disturbance in Saskatoon on Jan. 26.
Saskatoon police said in a news release that officers were called to the 300 block of 23rd St. E around 4:30 p.m. and found a man in front of the address carrying drug paraphernalia. Police said he appeared to be agitated and under the influence of an intoxicant.
With the assistance of a security guard, the man was arrested for public intoxication but became combative — kicking and biting officers, police said.
