Calgary police are investigating a fatal incident on Deerfoot Trail Tuesday evening that saw multiple cars strike a female pedestrian.
Officers responded to northbound Deerfoot Trail between Peigan Trail and 17th Avenue S.E. on Tuesday around 6:35 p.m., where a female pedestrian was located on the ground after police say she was hit by “one or more” vehicles. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe one vehicle that is thought to have struck the woman did not remain on scene and is likely damaged as a result of the collision. Police did not offer a description of the vehicle in question but said officers are looking to speak to all drivers and witnesses involved in the incident.
Police point anybody impacted by the event to its Victim Assistance Support Team, a free service for victims of crime or tragedy. The team can be reached at 403-428-8398, or toll-free at 1-888-327-7828.
“We recognize this incident will be upsetting to those who witnessed it and want to ensure witnesses and those impacted by this event are connected with support,” CPS said in a Wednesday news release.
