Sometimes patience pays off.
When someone cut in line in front of a Delray Beach, Fla., man, he went to another counter at his local Publix.
In the end, Stephen Munoz Espinoza, 43, won (US)$1 million for not letting the bad behaviour get to him, according to a Florida Lottery press release.
“It was the end of a long day, and I was tired,” Munoz Espinoza told lottery officials. “I stopped at Publix and was about to buy a ticket at the machine when a man cut right in front of me. Instead of saying something, I decided I’d just buy a ticket at the counter instead.”
Munoz Espinoza bought a winning 500X The Cash Scratch-Off ticket and plans to buy a new home.
“I can’t believe I won a million dollars!” he said after claiming his prize at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on Jan. 25.
The Delray Beach resident went for a one-time, lump-sum payment of (US)$820,000 U.S.
The lottery said the Publix where the winning ticket was bought will receive a (US)$2,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
