Edmonton weather: Winter’s clutch continues with stinging wind, morning flurries

A look at Sunday’s Edmonton weather by Environment Canada .

It’s  -20 C at the Edmonton Blatchford weather station Sunday morning, with 13 km/h winds from the north, northwest and a wind chill of -28.

Last week’s springy weather came too soon for winter lovers still wanting to dine on cold’s beauty. Don’t hate us now, caught mid-bite in winter’s gnash, with Sunday morning winds gusting up to 40/km h in a swirl of flurries, a wind chill in the minus 31 range. And that’s just the appetizer. The menu for next week includes snow set to drop Monday night into Wednesday, then more flurries to round out the week. You can’t get fat on winter though, just in it, so mind what you stick in your craw.

A little PSA reminder here that the city has activated its extreme weather response to help the vulnerable stay safe in the latest cold snap. ETS has dedicated overnight transportation on three routes between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. to transport people to shelters with capacity; overnight capacity has also been added at the Al Rashid Mosque to provide an addition 50 spaces. The Bissell Centre is running its Community Space from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. And Boyle Street Community Services centre is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
